Summer TV Blues

I like that Canadian shows are on in the summer, so I can have my fill of sappy dramas like Rookie Blue. It’s always been a fun show, and I’m firmly in a Team Golly place.

It’s just plain cute. I know the season’s probably ending with the ‘extended S5’ but that actually makes me happy! There’s a chance for a happy ending for Holly and Gail!

It’s nice to see a lesbian relationship on a generic drama get treated like everything else. It’s not a question of Gail falling for a woman, it’s a question of Gail stopping her normal self-destructive, bratty, immature, dating behaviors to be in love. But the show, which is ostensibly the Andy McNally show, is told pretty much from the perspective of the cops, and how they move from rookies to full-fledged grown-ass people. They all make mistakes, they all get caught up in life, but they all are learning and growing.

Yeah, there’s a lot of sleeping around, because TV, but I’ve really enjoyed watching Gail go from ice-princess, legacy cop (her parents and godfather are rather important people), who couldn’t make friends, into a … well I can’t say she’s a more personable person, since she still hates people, but she’s learned how to work with them, care about them, and stop being such a twit all the time. I mean come on, she cheated on her boyfriend so he’d feel okay breaking up with her, when he was in love with her friend, and neither of them would admit it.

That basically explains Gail in a nutshell. And Holly come to think of it.

And then we get behind the scenes stuff like this:

That jail cell one is for an upcoming episode:

Probably episode 10. Hoping. Hoping.
