In this year of contentious elections, I find it quite appealing that the side streets in your ward have received NO attention following this recent snow storm. Yes, the major avenues of California, Western and Devon are plowed and the buses are running, but even busy streets like Lunt (which services the Metra station) is restricted to one lane.
This morning, the EMTs were UNABLE to drive down my street to help a woman having a heart attack, because my street has not been plowed. I’ve lived here for years and I cannot recall EVER seeing my street plowed. Not to mention 75% of people in your ward park in the alleys, and heavens knows that you haven’t plowed those ever. I have 3 FOOT snow drifts in my alley. I’ll see my car in spring, but who knows about when the CITY will be able to pick up my building’s garbage.
And did you know that your neighboring wards have managed to plow their side streets? East of Western is surprisingly clear. Downtown is survivable. Your ward has people blocked in who cannot move their cars, and there is no help from your staff or the city. This is a once in a lifetime (or thrice at your age) chance for YOU to be the hero and the mench, to get out there and prove that you are established leadership who are willing to put in the sweat equity for us and get your inhabitants up and rolling again.
Instead, this morning as I walked three blocks to get to a street I could navigate, your people COLD CALLED my cell phone from a blocked number to ask for my vote.
Here’s the deal. If you can get our part of the city back on it’s feet by next week, you get my vote. If you can’t, I’ll be voting for anyone who gives a damn about us and is willing to work FOR us.
We want the snow cleared, the potholes filled, and the streets safe.
Can you do that, Alderman Stone?
