Still Not There

So the new iPod arrived, after minor mishaps, on Monday. Last night I forgot to charge it, so the battery died. I’m a little perplexed as to how the battery didn’t charge in the dock, but it may be from daisy-chaining the iPod through my CD burner. I’m going to swap it around tonight and see what’s going on.

As for my quest for Web -> Notes, I hit a snag. My copy/paste Applescript throws in characters (x00 instead of a space) and while it looks fine in BBEdit, it converts psycho. So it’s currently a little faster to copy/paste from all 9-24 pages of a TWoP Recap. I plunk all that into a Text doc and then convert with someone else’s Applescript. Reading is comfortable enough on the iPod. It’s a little small compared to the Palm, but it’s easy to read. The ‘idle’ time I have to read before I have to scroll is short, though, and I’d like to extend it to a full 60 seconds.

The current wackiness is MacOpener and XP. Yes, I have XP at work. I got a demo version of MacOpener, and while it picks up the iPod right away (and EphPod plays my music from my iPod as well as the crappy office PC speakers allow), the fucker crashes. Yeah, a complete Blue Screen of Death. Now I’ve tested this, and I can reproduce it when I have the iPod connected, disconnect it, and then reconnect it. I’m really not sure what I’m doing wrong. MacDrive is much more stable, but at $50, purchasing either one is a concern.

I do know that I hate the way the XP interface makes me disconnect my device ‘safely’. I miss ‘drag iPod to trash, eject, move on.’ Then again, I’m having that charging problem, so fuck if I know. Then again, there’s the native problem of not being able to see my iPod (or any Mac drive) on a Windows PC. Dude, it’s not that hard, and it might help deflect some of this lawsuit about being too big, Bill. S’all I’m saying. By the way, to convert my text to Notes on a PC, I go to iPod eBook Creator and yay, it all works.

Don’t get me wrong!

I’m loving the new pod. But it’s not ALL there yet.

It’s lemon squares are totally all that.

Addendum: When ‘awakening’ from idle, I found I have to press play twice, and there’s a pause before it starts playing. Playing the higher quality music, I might add!
