Repeat: I’m not an anti-American, I just didn’t vote for Bush and I think he’s going about this all wrong. This is filled with my personal views of the war. If you think that Bush is right and we should be doing this, stop reading now. Seriously. This is your warning.
Okay, you were warned!
I’ll admit it, I’m partly chapped because I was robbed of the last 10-20 minutes of Angel because we started lobbing bombs at Iraq. And while I hate Angel, Faith (played by Eliza Dushku) was on, and damn it, I was looking forward to seeing Faith kick some ass. And no. I was robbed. By Dubya. So I’m still ticked off since they didn’t tell me anything ‘new.’
We’re at war.
Anyone surprised? If so, go take your head out of your ass and read the papers or watch the news once in a while.
Here’s my problem.
The Bush Family Agenda
Let’s see. Bush Sr. had the Gulf War, which was arguably for saving the poor Kuwaitis from invasion. If that’d been all there was too it, I’m cool. Except as everyone at the time said, it was a war for Oil. Iraq has it. We need it for our cars. Okay fine. Except we made a deal about how Sadaam was evil and mean. If that’s the case, then we’re morally obligated to kick his ass and remove him from power.
Did we?
No!
We shoved him around and out of Kuwait, then we handed it all over to the UN and walked off. Um. And that taught him what lesson? Don’t mess with the US, because we’ll beat you around and then let the Baby Blue Berets take over. Nothing against the UN, but it was a good idea whose implementation is a wee bit lacking.
I thought we were putting Sadaam out of power because he’s aiding and abetting terrorists.
Are we fighting terrorism? Boy you could have fooled me! When’s the last time anyone actually heard about us chasing down Bin Laden? I thought we were supposed to be kicking the terrorist ass. Now we’re after Sadaam because he wouldn’t show us if he had nukes or not.
Did I miss something here?
And did anyone else notice that the first land we’re grabbing to ‘defend and protect’ in Iraq are the oil wells? Okay, so arguably the oil will make it hard for Sadaam to raise the cash to fight a war. But damned if it doesn’t look like we’re just going after the oil. Again.
That really pains me, since it’s starting to look like Dubya doesn’t give a rats ass about the fact that hundreds of US citizens died in our own borders, and instead of hunting down the SOBs who did this, we’re off chasing oil wells. Nice way to respect your people.
I talked to some former government workers. Check this out, we can’t assassinate Sadaam because he’s a world leader in power (it’s against the law, or some such, Strider wasn’t entirely clear on it). So Dubya asks for Sadaam to step down, thus making it okay for the CIA to kill him. Now, if you were Sadaam, what would you do? At the same time, we can assassinate Bin Laden, since he’s a fugitive. As far as I know, we’re not trying.
This is why I feel it’s depressing. I don’t think our priorities are correct. I think that if we’re after anyone, it ought to be the people who’ve already came and killed us. Stop them before they strike again, because we’re pretty sure they will. Protect the people here as best you can, but attacking Iraq is only to make terrorists more inclined to blow us up.
Stop trying to scare us with World War Two style propaganda. Duct taping plastic over my window will not save me from smallpox or anthrax. I know you’re trying to make us feel lie we can protect ourselves but we can’t. Okay? If some shit wants to set off a car bomb in front of the restaurant where we’re eating, we’re going to get hurt. So stop giving us monkey work. Give us something real and we’ll do it.
Look at the people who stopped Richard Reed (the shoe bomb guy) and pinned him down, tying him to his seat. We CAN help if you’ll let us.
Instead, you take away our rights to bear arms and you tell us we’re attacking Iraq.
I really hope that Rudy Giuliani runs for President. At least I know he gives a shit about us.
