Firstly, I’m still geeking with a new tool. KungLog, to post blogs from my Mac without having to connect to the pages etc. I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes, but neither have spell check.
The vacuum cleaner broke. It sucks and blows, as it should, but it doesn’t ‘bag’ the suckage. Just blows it out the back. Minor problem. It’s in the shop. The carpet got a bath last month, so that’s okay for now. We redecorated, and are getting a nuker. Microwave. Woo.
I also got two pictures of my Aunt S, and hung them today. She was a dancer when I was small (broke her leg, very sad), and had to give it up. But in 1979, she danced, and posed for some amazing pictures. One she hates (a very classic pose) and one I think she likes, but is embarassed by. It’s five shots, three in ‘pants’ and two in a skirt, showing off her flexibility, poise and fan-fucking-tastic leaping ability. I suspect that she’s always been a little dissapointed in klutzy me. Hard to say, since I love her like a mother and she loves me like a daughter. I know she’s always there for me, and I will always be there for her. Love. Sappy. Nuff said.
Right. So desks. I have a crappy one and Ipstenit has a nice (worn, not old) one. Neither are very good as computer desks. Mrs. Ips has no storage, mine just sucks. This has been on our list for ages. I saw the perfect desk in October (cheap, laminate, but with storage and no hutch). I can’t stand hutches, which often makes it hard to get the right computer desk. I also have a shit load of ‘peripherals.’ VCR, TV tuner, scanner, CD burner, Palm pilot, iPod and digital camera. Whew! Storing a lot of these is a pain in the ass. And I’m working on it. On top of that? We need space for file storage. Ipstenit more than I, but I do need some.
Enter Pop’s unfinished furniture.
Solid wood. Unfinished (you can stain to your liking). Shaker style. Computer hutch.
Holy shit. That’s what I want! Yeah, it has a hutch but it’s not so bad, all things considered.
What’s bad?
$850 for my desk. $980 for Ipstenit. Shipping and handling is free, but still, it’s $2000 for two desks. The pain! Thankfully my mother hadn’t gotten me my birthday gift yet, so I asked her for sponsership. She agreed. Not to shabby.
So tomorrow I fax in a request to custom build a lefty desk for the li’l lady and off we go.
And I get to type with my Aunt dancing above me. How cool is that?
