To Vongfong, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar

So. I get to Japan and there’s a possible typhoon coming. Then it’s a certainty that there will be a typhoon. Then I saw this:

Super Typhoon Vongfong as seen from the International Space Station on Oct. 9, 2014

That hole? It’s pretty much the “I Am Here” moment from the freakin’ space station.

Over the weekend we really didn’t know when it would hit. Predictions were everywhere from Sunday to Tuesday. When I woke up Monday morning, it was raining a little, but not so bad, and the forecast was for it to pass over Japan on Monday entirely, not Tuesday. They don’t actually name the typhoons in Japan, so they just called it ’19.’ When I told my step-mother that someone had named it Vongfong, she asked who and apparently it’s a joint comitee in Asia (see ‘List of names for tropical cyclones‘)

Well. Since my Tuesday is before ‘your’ Tuesday, USA, I’m happy to tell you all is well, and I’m on my way home. See you guys in my normal timezone soon.
