I remember my dad making me check out Halley’s Comet, when I didn’t really care so much. I remember the Hale-Bopp Comet (I was at an SCA event, and pointed it out to everyone, who shut up and stared in awe). I remember making pin-hole boxes to ‘watch’ a solar eclipse when I was in grammar school.
There’s something awe inspiring about these ‘random’ effects of nature that are totally explainable by science and can be predicted. They’re just cool.
Anyway. If you, like me, got screwed over by the weather, NASA has a bailout! NASAJPL’s I’m There: Lunar Eclipse Group is a Flickr group where people uploaded photos of the eclipse. A lot are standard photos of the moon, but here are a few of my favorites.
