I don’t know what it is about new code, but I always like to try it. Take, for example, this website. I’ve got the code pretty well handled, and yet I decide to fsk around with it and make it more.
Oh! The blog? Well, I wanted to try out this whole ‘Movable Type’ thing since Open Journal was good, but not really robust enough. It didn’t archive quite right. The is much more robust and has more … well, crap.
HTML was and is the simplist thing out there. It’s easier than Word (the formatting is simpler and straightforward). It’s really just plain text with added bits and peices. HTML is so easy, an idiot can make a page. Of course, therein lies the problem. You get a lot of dorks on the net who make a web page becuase they can, and who think that because they can make a simple page, they’re a web coder.
No, they’re not.
Hell, I’m not. I’m a hack and I know it. But I’m upfront and honest about it, which is more than I can say for a lot of people.
In the last year, I’ve begun tackling CGI and PHP. The short of all that is ‘Damn.’ I knew I wasn’t all that and a side of fries, but I thought, y’know, I knew enough web shit to get me through the day. CGI and PHP was a mind blowing experience. It took me a whole, a year, to get comfortable diving into that stuff, but now I’m an experienced hack with this stuff.
Can I make it on my own? No, probably not. But I don’t need to! I can take existing scripts and tweak them all around. Go me.
This is shaping up to be a lame entry. Disjointed, weird and … well, I appologize. I’ll try to come up with something else soon.
